About Me

Hello! My name is Erica and I am excited to welcome you to Kitchen Table Quilting. Take a look around or keep reading to find a little more about the quilter behind the kitchen table.

How I Got Started

I have been quilting for about 13 years. I bought myself an inexpensive sewing machine for my 26th birthday when I was pregnant with my second child — my plan was to sew a few baby items, but to never, ever sew a quilt.

Ha.

Just a few weeks later, I finished my first quilt and I was hooked. From there, I started sharing my projects on my blog, then writing tutorials, and then writing patterns.

A few years have passed and I now have a very messy sewing room of my own and I am no longer sewing at my kitchen table, but I kept the name since that is where I got started.

Writing Patterns

One of my greatest favorite aspects of writing patterns is explaining the quilting lingo in ways that anyone can understand. I enjoy combining traditional quilting shapes and techniques in new, innovate ways. My goal is to write patterns that help build skill and confidence but also inspire your imigination.

I now have dozens of patterns available in my shop and lots of free tutorials here on my website and on Instagram. I truly love what I do and want to share this wonderful hobby with you. It has transformed my life.

What Makes My Patterns Different

My patterns tap into something that is an important part of quilting history: resourcefulness. Just like quilts were made from clothing scraps, I want to help create patterns that use what you already have or that make use of fabric in smart ways. If you look at the patterns that I have available, many of them can be made from precuts or scraps or they can utilize that you already have on hand.

Making Quilting Accessible

My philosophy about quilting is simple: everyone can do it, and everyone should do it. Quilting is a rewarding hobby that results in a comforting, beautiful, useful result.

Behind the Scenes

A little about my non-quilting life: I live in Salem, Oregon, with my husband, 3 kids, and our Bernedoodles Wolfie and Cosmo. In addition to quilting, I enjoy listening to way too many audiobooks, cooking, and shuttling my kids around to various activities.
