A Scrappy, Rainbow, Ruby Star Society Natalie Quilt
The Natalie Quilt Pattern uses one of my all-time favorite scrap sizes (you can see other examples of scrap quilts that use this size here, here, here, and here), so I already had a good stash of pre-cut pieces ready to go. As I was sorting through everything, I realized I didn’t just want to make a scrap quilt — I wanted to make a rainbow scrap quilt.

And after even more sorting (and a little fabric chaos), I decided to take it one step further: a scrappy, rainbow quilt made entirely from Ruby Star Society (and a few OG Cotton + Steel) prints. It took a bit more digging through bins and shelves, but it was 100% worth it.

Choosing Fabric for a Rainbow Scrap Quilt
If you followed along on Instagram while I was making this quilt, you might have caught a couple of videos I shared about how I decide which colors to use and how to make sure the scraps I have will actually work in the layout. Spoiler: sometimes you think you have enough of a color… and then realize mid-sort that you definitely do not. But that’s part of the fun.

To give the rainbow layout space to shine, I used a single background fabric — Add It Up from Ruby Star Society, which I already had in my stash. Going with a consistent background (rather than a scrappy one) really helped the rainbow effect pop.

Backing, Binding, and That Ruby Star Theme ✨
Since I was already committed to a full Ruby Star Society quilt, I stuck with that theme for the finishing touches, too. The backing is a Granny Square print, and for the binding is a Kimberly Kight print from her Snap to Grid collection (which I loved and I would love to see more of these prints revived!).

Quilting Details
I went with straight, vertical, evenly spaced lines for this one. It must have felt right for this pattern because I used a similar style on all three of my Natalie Quilt samples. Sometimes simplicity is the best choice, especially when the fabrics are doing all the talking.

If you have a pile (or a mountain) of scraps waiting to be used, the Natalie Quilt Pattern is a perfect project. It’s beginner-friendly, strip pieced, and designed to bring out the best in your fabric collection — whether you’re working with Ruby Star Society, rainbow scraps, or just whatever’s in your bin.
