The Zora Quilt in Warp and Weft Mystic Fable

The Zora Quilt in Warp and Weft Mystic Fable

For the cover quilt of the Zora Quilt Pattern, I used the newest collection in Alexia Abegg’s Warp & Weft series, Warp & Weft Mystic Fable for Ruby Star Society. I’ve sewn with several Warp & Weft collections over the years, and they continue to be some of my favorites. The fabrics are soft, lightweight, and beautifully woven, with a texture that adds depth without overwhelming a quilt design. (You can see my previous Warp & Weft quilts here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.)

This version of the Zora Quilt was made using a fat quarter bundle of Warp & Weft Mystic Fable, plus a couple of coordinating Ruby Star Society basics. Because the Zora Quilt Pattern doesn’t require background fabric, it’s especially well-suited to a collection like this — it allows the full range of prints to shine. I love how the design highlights the lightest prints, the deepest tones, and everything in between, creating contrast and movement across the quilt top.

For the backing, I chose one of my go-to favorites: 108” Speckled in White Gold. It works with almost anything, and I always save leftover pieces to use later as background fabric in other quilts. The binding is Apron Stripe in Turquoise from the W&W Mystic Fable collection, which adds just the right finishing detail.

Heidi from Piece & Joy Quilting Co. quilted this one with a swirly pantograph called Lovely Loops. The soft curves play against the straight lines in the quilt top and enhance the overall sense of movement. The quilting adds texture without competing with the fabric — exactly what I was hoping for.
