The Sybil Quilt Pattern in a Rainbow of Scraps

The Sybil Quilt Pattern in a Rainbow of Scraps

One of my goals for my patterns is to make a scrappy version of as many of them as are scrap-friendly and then to make a rainbow version of as many of them are rainbow scrap friendly, so of course I had to make a rainbow scrap version of the Sybil Quilt. This one is perfect!

Since the pattern works well with leftover binding strips or jelly roll pieces (and I happen to have lots of those on hand), cutting fabric for this quilt went very quickly. I didn’t even have trouble finding enough green prints like I normally do.

For the background fabric, I debated going completely scrappy and using leftover white and off-white pieces, but then I realized how many times I’ve used the Wideback White Gold Speckled as a backing fabric — and how many leftover scraps I had on hand. More than enough! (Note: I love using leftover widebacks for this purpose and have a whole post about it here).

Prepare yourself for the backing fabric: it's a good one. This is a wideback print by Giucy Giuce and it's a cheater print so that the back is just as fun as the front. And it's a rainbow. Win, win, win. The binding is a print from a collection called Aunt Edna by Denyse Schmidt that has been in my stash for ages. I really wanted a plaid print that coordinated well with the muted colors on the backing fabrics and I have hoarded a ton of this print so I figured I should probably use it.

The Sybil Quilt Pattern is great for scrap lovers, rainbow quilters, and anyone who enjoys giving new life to leftover fabric. If you want to make your own rainbow version, the pattern is available now in the shop — and don’t forget to tag your photos with #thesybilquilt  and tag me @kitchentablequilting so I can see what you make!
