The Orla Quilt in Sunbeam

The Orla Quilt in Sunbeam

I love the colors and designs in this collection so much and I really wanted to design a pattern that would be simple enough to let the fabrics shine. The Orla Quilt was made with that goal in mind and I am so pleased with how versatile and fun the pattern turned out.

When I first started writing quilt patterns, my only objective was designing a pattern that people would want to make. Now that I have been doing this for a few years, I have a pretty long checklist of goals and objectives and I try to accomplish most (if not all) of them in every design. Learning to write patterns that work well with precuts was particularly challenging for me and I have worked really hard to make most of my patterns work with one or more precut.

This pattern works with three! You can use a jelly roll, fat eighth bundle, or fat quarter bundle.

Another one of my main goals is to write a pattern that is fun to make. Quilting should be fun! When I am working with fabric that I adore and a pattern that is fun to make, I enjoy the entire process so much more.

I have two favorite prints in the collection and I ended up with one for the backing and the other for the binding. Those tigers! They are so cute.

Folding in Caviar is such a pretty print and it is perfect for binding. I will definitely be buying more once the collection is available in shops.

I put together a fabric guide if you would like to make a quilt just like mine. You can download it here.
