The Blythe Quilt in Fireglow
I know a lot of you have been excited about Fireglow by Sarah Watts finally showing up in shops — and you should be. It’s such a good collection. The fabrics have a really unique mix of color, texture, and scale, and they translate beautifully in a quilt. They ended up being the perfect choice for the cover version of the Blythe Quilt Pattern.

To make this quilt, I used:
-
2 yards of Speckled in Black Onyx
-
1 7/8 yards of Scribe in Shell

Since Fireglow has a lot of variation in both color and value, I wanted to pair it with high-contrast accent and background fabrics to help give the quilt a little more structure. I think the dark accent fabric really helps frame the prints and keeps everything from blending together too much.

For the binding, I used more Speckled in Black Onyx, and I really like using the accent fabric (or something close to it) for binding on quilts like this. It gives the edges a clean finish without competing with everything happening in the quilt top. The backing is 108” Starry in Smoke, which felt like a perfect fit for this collection.

Heidi Rodli of Piece and Joy Quilting Co. did the long arm quilting for me and suggested the Hypnotic panto. I’m normally not drawn to super swirly quilting designs, but I think it ended up being the perfect choice for this project. The movement softens all the straight lines in the quilt top and adds a lot of texture without overwhelming the fabrics. One thing I really appreciate about working with Heidi is that she always pushes me just enough to try things I probably wouldn’t have chosen on my own, and I almost always end up loving the result.

The Blythe Quilt Pattern is available now and includes multiple sizes. It’s designed to work especially well with fat quarters, but it’s also a great option for scraps or other leftover bits if you want a more mixed and scrappy look.

I can’t wait to see what you make with this one.
