The April Quilt Pattern Mockups

The April Quilt Pattern Mockups

One of my favorite parts of releasing a new pattern is putting together the mockups.

This is point when I can show off the flexibility of the pattern — and the April Quilt Pattern has a lot of range depending on what fabrics you use. I also like being able to show you what your favorite collection would look like in a quilt. It can be difficult to visualize and mockups really help.

Playing with Color

Because this pattern is built from simple squares and sashing, the overall look changes quite a bit based on fabric choice.

With higher contrast fabrics, the grid really stands out and the quilt feels a little more structured and graphic.

With lower contrast or softer palettes, everything blends together more and the quilt takes on a calmer, more subtle look.

Neither is better — just different directions depending on what you’re going for.

I did have lots of requests to see rainbow versions of this quilt. I tried to represent a few different options here BUT I do think the best way to make this a rainbow quilt is with scraps.

Final Thoughts

If you’re planning to make the April Quilt, the mockups are a good place to start. They can help you get a sense of what direction you want to go before you start cutting into your fabric.
