When I saw their latest collection, Home Sweet Home, I knew I needed to make a quilt with it as a gift. My mother-in-law (who is also my next-door neighbor) was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, and she has been on quite the treatment journey. This seemed like the perfect collection for her.
The collection is a little unusual because it has lots of low-volume prints, a few lighter-value prints, and one dark-value print. I figured I either needed to leave the dark green print out or use a pattern that would distribute it throughout the quilt. I settled on the Violet Quilt Pattern since it would let me use the dark green for the small squares, and the pattern only needs a fat quarter of that fabric, so it was perfect.
Next, I needed to decide on a background fabric. I am least comfortable using green, but I am trying to be more adventurous with it, and it seemed like the best color for this collection. Most of the prints have a medium green accent somewhere in the design, and I thought a medium green background would be a nice balance between the single dark green print and all of the lighter prints in the collection. I went with Pure Solids in Rosemary.
For the backing fabric, I used my favorite print from the collection. It is called Heritage Sampler, and it looks like a cross-stitch sampler with lots of different florals. The binding is the darker green print from the collection (it's called Farmhouse), which helps tie everything together.
I decided to curve the corners and make bias binding. It just felt right for this quilt.
I love how the quilt turned out! We gifted it to my mother-in-law last week. While I always love making quilts, making something with a specific person in mind feels extra special.
If you would like to make a quilt just like this, you can find Home Sweet Home in shops now, and you can find the Violet Quilt Pattern right here.
