The Violet Quilt in Holiday Classics
After finishing this quilt last month, I found myself with leftovers from the Holiday Classics III collection by Rifle Paper Co., along with some scraps from the earlier Holiday Classics collections (you can see the quilts I made with those collections here, here, and here). With such beautiful fabric on hand, I knew I had to put it to good use.
Serendipity struck when I realized I had already cut some of the scraps into squares that were perfect for the Violet Quilt Pattern. With the re-release of the pattern happening soon, the timing felt just right. I gathered all the pieces together and got to work cutting.
Fussy Cutting and Fabric Choices
The latest Holiday Classics III fabrics feature a couple of prints with larger-scale images that were perfect for fussy cutting. I used these as the C squares in the quilt, creating focal points that really stand out. For the small squares, I used a leftover red print from the Lydia Quilt project—it was just enough to complete the design. It felt like everything came together perfectly, almost as if this quilt was meant to be!
For the background fabric, I pulled Confetti Cottons in Off White from my stash. The backing is one of my all-time favorite Rifle Paper Co. Christmas prints, and this is actually the second time I’ve used it as a quilt backing. The binding is the red print with gold dots, which adds a subtle festive shine. While I don’t often use metallics for bindings (especially one with so much metallic), it’s holding up beautifully so far.
Simple (Timeless) Quilting
I opted for a simple grid quilting design to give the quilt a classic, cozy feel without taking attention away from the gorgeous prints. This understated quilting technique complements the bold and festive fabric choices perfectly.
Scrap-ish Friendly Quilting
Even though I wouldn’t necessarily call the Violet Quilt Pattern a “scrap-friendly” design, it’s wonderfully suited for leftovers. It’s a great way to use small pieces of fabric from previous projects that you just couldn’t let go to waste.
