The Scrappy, Rainbow Annie Quilt

The Scrappy, Rainbow Annie Quilt

I had a goal to make one more scrappy, rainbow quilt before the end of the year and that is a goal that I can now check off my list. The Annie Quilt Pattern has alternate instructions for making a scrappy version of the pattern which is perfect if you are like me and have more scraps that anyone could probably sew through in a lifetime 😂

If you have never made a scrap quilt, consider this pattern your gateway project: you are going to love how easily it gobbles up those scraps. My quilt is rainbow-y, but the pattern is just as fun as a non-rainbow quilt.

The Annie Quilt uses 2 background fabrics. For one of them, I used some leftover white solids from 2 different fabrics that seemed to be the same shade (oops I didn't label them!). For the second fabric, I used leftovers of this 108" newsprint fabric. I wish I'd had enough of the fabric to also use it as the backing for my quilt, but I just had scraps leftover from this project

I wasn't sure which fabric I did want to use for the backing so I did a little poll on Instagram. The print that received the most votes was actually this Tula Pink skunk print. Even though I love that print, it has bright whites and dark blacks and it felt like a weird combination with the more faded look of the newsprint fabric.

Instead, I went with this Dana Willard Fruit Mix print and I LOVE the combination.

The binding fabric is one of my favorites: Designer Essentials in Mineral Blue. I love this color so much that I bought a bolt of it a couple of years ago and have used it for lots of bindings.

My next plan for this pattern is to make a quilt using scraps for the diagonal stripes in the background. Maybe black and white plus shapes with colorful stripes? I'm not sure — there are so many possibilities!

If you would like to make your own scrappy Annie Quilt, you can pick up a copy of the pattern in my shop!
