The Plaid-ish Quilt Fabric Requirements

The Plaid-ish Quilt Fabric Requirements

After lots and lots of requests, I have something to share with you - here are fabric requirements for making the Plaid-ish Quilt.

Plaid-ish Quilt Tutorial - Kitchen Table Quilting

The tutorial did not include fabric requirements because it was intended to be made from scraps. Actually, most of my tutorials are either for a single block or for scraps so they don't have fabric requirements listed. After getting a whole bunch of emails requesting them though, I have created them for the Plaid-ish Quilt.

These instructions are for using a single dark valued fabric, a single mid valued fabric, and a single light valued fabric. If you would like more fabric variety, your total yardage needed for each one will probably be just a little bit more than what is listed. And actually if you cut carefully, you could get away with 2 1/2 yards for the mid valued fabrics but it would be cutting it REALLY close.

The fabric requirements for the backing and binding are included. For the binding, you need (8) 2 1/2" x WOF strips. For the backing, I highly recommend picking up a 90" wide minky for this project - that is what I have used each time I have made this quilt (you need 2 yards). The table shows you how much you need if you are using 44" wide or 108" wide fabrics.

If you are using 44" wide fabric, you need to cut your fabric in half so that you have (2) 2 1/2" yard x WOF pieces and then sew them together along the long edge. This gives you a little more width than you need - you can trim 8-10" off of the side before basting if you prefer.

Of course I couldn't help myself and made a whole rainbow of mockups that would work with these fabric requirements.
