The Orla Quilt in Collection CF by Carolyn Friedlander

A few weeks ago when I was looking through my stash for a jelly roll to make a sample of the Orla Quilt, I remembered that I had this Collection CF jelly roll by Carolyn Friedlander that I had been saving for just the right project. This was it.

I am a huge fan of Carolyn's fabrics (check here, here, and here)— they are incredibly versatile and the colors are always just the right shade that I can't find anywhere else. Because they are such great stash builders, I have amassed quite a selection of prints from her various collections over the years.

For the background fabric, I knew I wanted to use one of Carolyn's prints and I had a few different options. I debated between a few fabrics before remembering that I had some leftover Widescreen backing fabric that would *probably* be enough (of course I didn't measure first).

My gamble paid off and there was plenty. I love the Architextures crosshatch fabrics and they are beautiful when used as background. I haven't compared the Architextures 44" wide prints to the Widescreen prints, but they are similar if not the same. The prints almost like a solid or a linen from a distance, but they have more oomph (plus they are better for hiding points that don't match). 

Using a darker background fabric also meant that I could use the lighter prints from the collection without them blending too much into the background. This collection has some fantastic blues and greens and they really popped.

The binding fabric is an older Carolyn Friedlander print that has been in my stash for a long time, but it was a nice match for the orange in the jelly roll. 

I splurged on the backing fabric (I have been doing that a lot lately, oops!) and picked up Elevation in Water from the collection. The white backing fabric with the darker quilt top was a nice combo.
