The Molly Quilt in a Year in Petals
I’m so excited to finally share the Molly Quilt I made for the Year in Petals Lookbook by Art Gallery Fabrics! Being part of this project was such an honor, and I absolutely loved working with this stunning fabric collection.
Why I Love the Year in Petals Collection
Designed by Bonnie Christine, A Year in Petals immediately caught my eye with its mix of low-volume and muted prints paired with pops of brighter colors. Bonnie’s ability to weave nature into her designs is unmatched, and this collection is no exception. The prints have a delightful floral theme, with a unique mix of more geometric and organic shapes that create an intriguing combination of scales and textures.
I’ve been sewing with Bonnie Christine’s fabrics for years, and her designs always feel timeless and inspiring.
Quilt Design Details
For this quilt, I used Creme de la Creme as the background fabric. Initially, I pitched using a blue background (see the image below), which would have been a little outside my comfort zone, but Art Gallery Fabrics requested I switch to the neutral option. I think both backgrounds work beautifully, but the Creme de la Creme gives this version a soft, classic feel that complements the collection perfectly.
• Binding: The binding is made with Bountiful in Garden Night. I often opt for dark or bright fabrics for the binding to frame the quilt, and this deep, rich print does just that.
• Backing: The backing fabric is Meadow in Sunny Skies, a light and airy print that’s a bit different from the medium-value prints I usually choose. I love how the light backing adds a fresh, clean finish to this quilt.
Making Your Own Molly Quilt

Why the Molly Quilt Pattern is Perfect for This Collection
The Molly Quilt Pattern emphasizes movement and works wonderfully with the variety of scales in the A Year in Petals collection. The contrast between the muted prints and the pops of brighter colors creates visual interest and lets the fabrics truly shine.
