The Frances Quilt in Warp and Weft Moonglow

The Frances Quilt in Warp and Weft Moonglow

Oh cross weave fabrics, I love you so much. Even though they can be a little trickier to work with (a little more prone to stretching and they fray more than normal quilting cottons), cross weave fabrics (sometimes called woven fabrics) have such pretty depth of color that they are 100% worth the extra effort.

One of the great ways to help you ease into working with a cross weave is to use them in a simple pattern. The Frances Quilt is beginner friendly and a perfect project for giving these fabrics a try.

I have made several projects with Alexia Abegg's previous cross weave fabrics (see here, here, here, here, and here) so I have had a little practice but I loved getting to make this simple pattern with her new Warp and Weft Moonglow prints because they make a gorgeous rainbow and the pattern really lets the colors shine.

Another great thing about crossweave fabrics is that they are cozy but lightweight. This quilt is made 100% from crossweaves and it is delightful. Perfect as a summer quilt.

If you are a little nervous about quilting your own crossweave project, this is a great one to send to a longarmer. I have quilted most of my previous projects on my own and they are really not much more difficult than a normal quilting cotton quilt, but I was a little short on time so my wonderful friend Heidi of Piece and Joy Quilting quilted this one up for me. I love the design that she helped me pick out.
