I have talked a little here before about the approach I want to take with my patterns this year - I want to write patterns that are joyful to make. To me, that means that they need to have a few qualifications:
  • They are fun (nothing too fiddly, not too many tiny pieces)
  • They could potentially use fabric that you already have (stash or scraps) or they use precuts
  • They are easier to make than they look
  • They work well with a myriad of fabric choices

I think that this pattern ticks all of those boxes. The pieces are on the larger size so it is a great way to show off your fabric, it is layer cake friendly, it is not hard to make, and it works well with tons of different fabric options.

When I posted this photo on Instagram last week, several people commented that they were intimidated by trying to keep patterns like this one lined up.

And yes, I agree that when you have long pieces of sashing, it can be hard to keep everything lined up . . . which is why this isn't constructed that way. The sashing pieces are added to each block and then everything is sewn together as blocks which helps keep everything lined up nicely.

Let me tell you a little bit about this fabric - it is from Sarah Watts for Ruby Star Society and the collection is called Tiger Fly (it will be out next month). The butterflies are GORGEOUS. The pattern works really well with non-fussy cut fabrics too (check out the IG post above, I will be sharing more about that quilt soon).
