The Charlotte Quilt Pattern in Marigold
You know I am a big Aneela Hoey fan (see here and here for recent projects) and I fell particularly hard for her latest collection, Marigold. She does such a great job with florals! I couldn't resist and a jelly roll of the collection was perfect for the Charlotte Quilt Pattern.
This pattern doesn't use very much background fabric (just a little over a yard for the lap size) and focuses more on the feature fabric which means it needs just a little more than a jelly roll to make the quilt — you need 48 strips.
To supplement my jelly roll, I picked up 1/4 yard cuts of a few coordinating solids (Bella Sweet Pea, Mauve, Cheddar, and Navy) and cut 2.5" x WOF strips to add to my quilt. I considered using more of the prints from the collection, but this particular jelly roll already had duplicate strips of all of the prints and I wanted more variety.
Just a little note about precuts: Jelly Rolls have 40 strips, but most fabric collections don't have 40 prints, so they will have duplicates of some (or all) of the fabrics. If you are using a jelly roll and want maximum variety, pick a collection that has lots of different prints. For example, Camille Roskelley's Lighthearted collection has 40 prints and Kim Kight's Sugar Cone has 25 prints.
One reason why I wanted to use this collection is because I wanted to show the quilt using prints that varied in value — there are very dark prints in the collection and very light prints and it all works.
I indulged my fabric love and picked up Summer Daisy for the backing fabric. Love it. The binding fabric is Bella Lake, which is a very pretty blue color.
