Meet the New and Improved Mini Plaid-ish Quilt Pattern

Meet the New and Improved Mini Plaid-ish Quilt Pattern

I am so excited to finally share the Mini Plaid-ish Quilt Pattern with you! This design has been a longtime favorite — originally released as a free tutorial back in 2019 and followed by a mini version a couple years later. After so many requests for a full pattern, I am so excited (and relieved!) to say that it’s finally here with all the details you’ve been asking for.

This updated version now includes fat quarter–friendly instructions (in addition to scrap options) and full directions for six sizes:

  • Baby – 36” x 50”

  • Small Lap – 50” x 64”

  • Large Lap – 64” x 78”

  • Twin – 78” x 92”

  • Queen – 92” x 106”

  • King – 106” x 106”

Why You’ll Love the Mini Plaid-ish

  • It’s incredibly versatile and forgiving — perfect for scraps, bundles, or fat quarters.

  • The design is based on light, mid, and dark fabric values, so as long as you have contrast, your quilt will look fantastic.

  • It’s a wonderful way to use what you already have, while still being easy to adapt to your favorite new collections.

💡 Tip: If you aren’t sure whether your fabrics have enough contrast, snap a black and white photo — if the values look distinct, you’re set.

A Little Backstory

The original Plaid-ish quilt quickly became one of my most popular tutorials, and since then it’s been one of my go-to scrap-busting projects. Turning the mini version into a full pattern was a big project, but I couldn’t be happier with the result.
