The Great Quilt Pattern in Dog Park from Ruby Star Society

Meet the Greta Quilt Pattern!

I have a new pattern for you today — this is the Greta Quilt. This time around I have done a little something different with my samples (keep reading for the explanation) and it was so much fun I have been anxious to get to share this pattern.

The Greta Quilt Pattern Cover - Kitchen Table Quilting

The Greta Quilt was inspired by knitted sweaters. The blocks themselves are simple and the combination of two background fabrics makes the construction come together quickly and gives you lots of wiggle room for fabric placement and choice.

A Scrappy Rifle Paper Co. Greta Quilt - Kitchen Table Quilting

As usual, I made 3 samples for this pattern but I did something a little different that I am going to be trying for most of my patterns going forward. While I love writing and releasing patterns, I felt like I needed to shake things up a bit and this gave me the creative latitude that I needed.

  1. Sample 1 will be a quilt that uses one of the precuts that works with the pattern. This sample will most likely be used for the cover. This pattern can be made with fat quarters or layer cake squares.
  2. Sample 2 will be scrappy. Some patterns lend themselves more easily to scrappy, but really any pattern can be made with scraps. This is a great way for me to keep my scraps under control and show you a way that you can make the pattern using what you already have on hand. The scrappy one this time around is Rifle Paper Co. scraps and is to was soooooo much fun.
  3. Sample 3 will be something a little outside the box. It will use the shapes in the pattern, but may not follow the number of precuts required or may use a combination of different background fabrics. It will break the rules in one way or another (or ten). This type of project is a lot of fun for me personally, but I also think it will be a fun way to show more experienced or adventurous quilters how they can use the pattern as a guide to do something a little different.

Of course I will still be doing mockups and will give you lots of ideas for how you can use this pattern. There are instructions for the Greta Quilt going all the way from baby size to king size and I think this design is particularly well suited for a bed size quilt.

I will be sharing my 3 samples with you over the next few days and would love your feedback as to whether this new plan is helpful or not. Your thoughts are always appreciated.

You can find the Greta Quilt in my shop now as either a paper or PDF pattern. If you are planning to venture outside the box with me, I also recommend picking up the (free!) coloring sheet to help you plan your project.
